Amritsar Police busted a cross-border narco cartel, arresting three smugglers and seizing 4.5 kg heroin and a .30 bore pistol, says DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav.
According to DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Amritsar Police busted a cross-border narco smuggling cartel with the arrest of three drug smugglers involved in heroin and illegal arms trafficking, and recovered 4.5 kg heroin and one.30 bore pistol from their possession as part of the ongoing effort to make Punjab a safe and secure state in accordance with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Gurwinder Singh alias Gopi (23), a resident of the village of Shahwala in Ferozepur; Tilak alias Shibu (18), a native of Rajiv Gandhi Vihar, Jalandhar, who currently resides in the village of Mustafabad in Amritsar; and Daljit Singh alias Lala (20), a native of the village of Naushera Dhalla, who currently resides in the village of Mustafabad in Amritsar.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation has shown that the apprehended accused were using social media to communicate with a foreign-based handler, and under his supervision, they were delivering and transporting illicit weaponry and heroin shipments across several areas. According to him, more research is being done to determine the forward and backward connections in this instance.
According to Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, who shared operational details, accused Gurwinder Singh, also known as Gopi, was arrested with 1.5 kg of heroin and a.30 bore pistol. During questioning, the accused revealed the involvement of two additional associates, which resulted in additional recoveries. Police nominated and arrested Daljit Singh, also known as Lala, and Tilak, also known as Shibu, based on his disclosure, and they also found a further 3 kg of heroin in their possession, he added.
According to the CP, the inquiry has shown that accused Gurwinder Singh, also known as Gopi, was actively involved in collecting cocaine and other illicit consignments through drone drops in the Ferozepur region because he lived close to the border. He stated that it has come to light that accused Gurwinder Singh, also known as Gopi, used to work directly with a smuggler based abroad to obtain shipments.
Accordingly, a case FIR no. 345 dated 12-12-2025 has been filed at Police Station Gate Hakima in Amritsar under sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act and sections 25(6, 7, 8) of the Arms Act.
