Punjab Govt releases ₹12.44 crore under Ashirwad Scheme to support 2,440 SC, BC, and EWS beneficiaries for girls’ marriage in 2025–26.
Dr. Baljit Kaur, Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, announced today that the Punjab government has disbursed ₹12.44 crore under the Ashirwad Scheme for the benefit of 2,440 recipients who are members of the economically disadvantaged and backward classes during the current fiscal year 2025–2026.
Dr. Baljit Kaur added that applications from qualified recipients from 15 districts—Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Pathankot, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Sangrur, and Malerkotla—were received via the Ashirwad Portal. A total of ₹12.44 crore has been made available to support these 2,440 people.
She added that 657 individuals from Amritsar, 7 from Barnala, 44 from Bathinda, 124 from Ferozepur, 509 from Gurdaspur, 79 from Hoshiarpur, and 92 from Jalandhar have been covered by this aid. In a same vein, the program has benefited 143 people from Mansa, 70 from Sri Muktsar Sahib, 42 from Patiala, 290 from Pathankot, 35 from Rupnagar, 13 from SAS Nagar, 50 from Sangrur, and 285 from Malerkotla.

According to Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Punjab government offers ₹51,000 in financial support for the marriage of girls from low-income households under the Ashirwad Scheme.The applicant must be a permanent resident of Punjab, a member of a family that is below the poverty line (BPL), and a member of one of the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or other Economically Weaker Sections in order to be eligible for the scheme’s benefits, she continued. Benefits under the system are available to up to two daughters per qualifying family, provided that the total yearly family income from all sources is less than ₹32,790.
The Cabinet Minister added that DBT is used to send the funds straight into the recipients’ bank accounts. She underlined that the Punjab government is moving quickly to improve the economic standing and level of living of people from all walks of life.
Additionally, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is still totally dedicated to the welfare of all groups and is always striving to improve the lot of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and Economically Weaker Sections.
