Visibility dropped to near zero, forcing airlines to cancel and delay multiple services for safety reasons.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, described the situation as “beyond our control” amid worsening weather conditions.
Low visibility levels fell below prescribed operating minima across Delhi and nearby northern airports.
As a result, airlines activated emergency protocols to prevent risks to passengers and crew.
Moreover, travellers faced extended waiting times and uncertainty across terminals.
IndiGo Issues Safety Advisory Amid Low Visibility
In a statement, IndiGo said dense fog significantly impacted flight operations throughout the day.
Therefore, the airline proactively cancelled several flights to prioritise passenger safety.
IndiGo added that its operations teams closely monitored the situation in coordination with Delhi Airport authorities.
Additionally, the airline followed established safety protocols under rapidly changing weather conditions.

The airline noted that visibility around Delhi Airport had reduced drastically due to fog.
“As a precaution, some flights may be cancelled through the day,” the advisory stated.

Other Airlines Also Affected by Fog Conditions
Flight disruptions extended beyond IndiGo, affecting all major carriers operating from Delhi.
Air India confirmed that poor visibility impacted operations for all airlines at the airport.
The national carrier cancelled more than 20 flights in the interest of passenger safety.
Air India said cancellations aimed to avoid prolonged uncertainty for travellers.
The airline added that operations would resume once weather conditions improve.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet also reported operational challenges due to dense fog.
SpiceJet warned that all arrivals, departures, and consequential flights could face delays.
Therefore, passengers were advised to check flight status regularly before travel.
Delhi Airport authorities also issued an advisory acknowledging possible delays.
They said teams were working closely with stakeholders to minimise inconvenience.

The dense fog also disrupted rail services across the national capital.
Several trains ran hours behind schedule during early morning hours.
Additionally, road traffic slowed significantly due to poor visibility.
Many areas reported near-zero visibility during peak travel hours.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for dense fog.
It urged residents to remain cautious during early morning travel.
According to the IMD, Delhi’s morning temperature dipped to around 12 degrees Celsius.
Weather conditions also worsened the region’s already severe air pollution crisis.
Air Quality Worsens as AQI Slips into ‘Severe Plus’ Category
Delhi’s Air Quality Index slipped into the ‘Severe Plus’ category on Monday morning.
AQI levels breached the 456 mark, raising serious health concerns.
Ashok Vihar recorded an AQI of 500 during early hours.
Meanwhile, Anand Vihar and Akshardham reported AQI readings of 493.
Dwarka recorded an AQI of 469, remaining in the ‘Severe’ category.
Noida also reported grim conditions with an AQI of 454.
According to official classifications, AQI levels between 401 and 450 are ‘Severe’.
Readings between 451 and 500 fall under the ‘Severe Plus’ category.
Experts warned that dense fog combined with pollution could persist during winter months.
Authorities advised residents to limit outdoor exposure and follow health advisories.
