Instagram launches “Your Algorithm,” letting users control Reels suggestions and personalize their feed based on interests.
Instagram is introducing a new feature named “Your Algorithm” that provides users with increased control over Reels suggestions displayed in their feed. The tool enables users to identify the topics that influence their recommendations and modify them according to their actual viewing preferences, thereby enhancing the personalization of the Reels experience as interests evolve. The feature is presently accessible in the United States and will be extended internationally in English shortly.
Your algorithm is located directly within the Reels pane. While viewing a Reel, users will observe a small emblem in the upper-right corner that depicts two lines with hearts. Tapping it opens the Your Algorithm panel, which provides a brief summary of Instagram’s assessment of your primary interests based on recent activity and AI-derived insights. Categories may encompass creativity, athletics, fashion, food, or any content with which users most frequently engage. Users are also able to share this summary as a Story, akin to Spotify Wrapped.
Below the summary, users will find the primary control section. Instagram presents users with a selection of topics it considers relevant to their interests, enabling them to either select those they wish to see more frequently or designate the ones they prefer to see less often. Reels suggestions are updated in accordance with these selections. If a preferred topic is not listed, users may manually input it, providing detailed control over their feed beyond general categories.

Instagram states that this represents the initial stage toward providing users with more precise control over their feed. Currently, your algorithm impacts only the Reels tab; however, the company intends to expand the feature to the Explore tab and other sections of the application in the future. The objective is to enable users to customize their overall Instagram experience, rather than depend solely on automated suggestions.
This update emphasizes Instagram’s move toward a more personalized, user-centered content experience, empowering individuals to have direct influence over what appears in their feed and supporting the platform’s continued relevance as user preferences change.
