Yogi Adityanath meets RSS leadership as BJP reorganizes in UP after 2024 Lok Sabha setbacks, focusing on party-district-Sangh synergy.

Are the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) working together on a significant overhaul in Uttar Pradesh? Over the past two weeks, the Sangh and the Yogi Adityanath government have been in close communication, laying the groundwork for their upcoming phase of operation in the state.

At a time when the BJP is reassessing its organizational readiness for the 2027 assembly elections, a series of private meetings in Lucknow and Ayodhya have returned attention to chief minister Adityanath’s increasing closeness to the Sangh.

Sources claim that between November 18 and 26, RSS representatives met with BJP leaders, senior bureaucrats, and ministers from Uttar Pradesh to get firsthand input on the functioning of the administration. Daily governance concerns, gaps that need to be filled, and strategies to improve coordination before to the next election cycle were the main topics of discussion.

Following this, according to the sources, Adityanath and RSS president Mohan Bhagwat met on November 24 at the Sangh’s Ayodhya office. The roughly hour-long conversation increased the excitement surrounding this highly anticipated alignment.

All of this occurs against the backdrop of discontent within the BJP’s state unit following the party’s poor showing in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. 33 of the state’s 80 parliamentary seats were won by the BJP, a nearly 50% decrease from the 62 seats they won in 2019.

Although the BJP leadership has openly denied any schism, internal discussions have shown disagreements between the organization and the state government. The Sangh believes that before the next assembly election, the BJP cannot afford to lose its organization in Uttar Pradesh. How attentive MLAs and district leaders have been on the ground has also been a major topic of contention in the ongoing debates. Certain BJP leaders have fallen short of expectations, according to RSS authorities.

According to sources, the strategy is to make sure that ministers in charge of districts stay in regular communication with the RSS members there, provide unambiguous warnings, and advocate for greater direct involvement with the population. The goal is to strengthen the “Triveni,” or three-way, coordination between the Sangh, the party, and the government.

This is a broader political endeavor as well. The RSS and BJP are perceived as wanting to duplicate the winning formula in Uttar Pradesh following the Bihar assembly election sweep. With the party aiming for a third consecutive term in power, senior BJP leaders characterize 2027 as a pivotal election. Reducing caste divisions that have influenced Uttar Pradesh politics for decades and promoting a narrative of social peace within Hindu culture are the top priorities for the Sangh. They think that by doing this, the BJP will be able to counteract the opposition’s, led by the Samajwadi Party, caste-based mobilizations.

January 2026 will be a significant showcase for this endeavor. As part of its centennial celebrations, the Sangh plans to host a sizable Hindu convention in Lucknow. Social harmony, stronger families, environmental preservation, traditional Indian behavior, and civic duty are the five main subjects that will be discussed at the gathering. It is anticipated that Adityanath will play a major role in this convention. In addition to supporting Adityanath’s reputation as the state’s spokesperson for “Hindutva” government, the Sangh hopes the event will demonstrate solidarity across Hindu culture.

Recently, Adityanath has begun talking more candidly about his ties to the Sangh. He claimed that foreign diplomats frequently inquire about his affiliation with the RSS during a November 23 event in Lucknow. He responded in the affirmative and mentioned that he had previously served as a Sangh volunteer. The chief minister referred to Mohan Bhagwat, who attended the occasion, as a “karma yogi.”

In the midst of all of this, the BJP is also getting ready for organizational changes, including talks of expanding its cabinet and choosing a new state president. Uttar Pradesh continues to be the political center for both the BJP and the RSS.
