Amritsar police bust cross-border weapons network, arrest Jugraj Singh and Balwinder Singh, recover 7 pistols in Pakistan-linked smuggling case.

According to DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday, Amritsar Police dismantled a Pakistan-linked cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of its two operatives and recovered seven sophisticated pistols—three PX5 and four.30 bore pistols—from their possession as part of the ongoing effort to make Punjab a safe and secure state in accordance with CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives.

The people who were taken into custody are Jugraj Singh, also known as Jagga, 29, a resident of Mulla Behram in Amritsar, and Balwinder Singh, 32, a resident of Bhindi Nain in Amritsar. The latter has a criminal history, with murder, Arms Act, and NDPS Act cases filed against him.

According to the DGP, the first investigation showed that the accused were following instructions from a handler based in Pakistan who used WhatsApp to designate delivery routes and pickup locations for the illegal circulation of weapons. According to the DGP, more research is being done to determine forward and backward connections in this situation.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared operational information, stating that a police team during naka bandi in the Cantonment area confiscated five illegal firearms from suspect Balwinder Singh after acting on intelligence inputs. Police launched a raid based on Balwinder’s admission, arrested his accomplice Jugraj Singh, also known as Jagga, and found two.30 bore pistols in his hands, he said.

According to the CP, preliminary investigation has shown that both of the accused resided near the international border, making it easy for them to assist the transnational smuggling network. According to him, the investigation has also shown that Balwinder Singh and Jugraj, also known as Jagga, were involved in the transportation and distribution of illicit weapons in the rural area of Amritsar.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 247, dated 22-11-2025, has been filed at Police Station Cantonment in the Amritsar Commissionerate under sections 25 and 25 (6, 7 and 8) of the Arms Act.
