UP launches Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana from Dec 1, offering 25% rebate and 100% interest waiver on electricity bills for households & small businesses.

Lucknow: Starting on December 1, the Uttar Pradesh government will implement the “Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana,” which will significantly assist the state’s residential and small business power users.

The initiative seeks to alleviate financial strain on homes and small companies by resolving long-overdue electricity bills.

Customers can participate in the program from December 1 through February 28, 2026. It provides a 25% rebate on the principle amount of outstanding invoices in addition to a 100% remission of interest and fee. Commercial customers with connections up to one kilowatt and residential customers with connections up to two kilowatts have been given special advantages.

According to officials, the plan will assist in reestablishing a cordial and worry-free rapport between the electricity department and regular inhabitants. In addition, consumers who are involved in cases of unauthorized power use will have the chance to pay their bills, which will allow the legal actions to be dropped.

As he reviewed the preparations, UPPCL Chairman Ashish Kumar Goyal stated that the government had made this choice with the public interest in mind. He went on to say that families who are having trouble paying their bills on time will find genuine relief from the choice of simple installments and automatic bill adjustments based on average consumption.

To guarantee maximum participation, the power department has started a comprehensive awareness campaign in both rural and urban regions, complete with notices, leaflets, and information camps.

According to officials, the program will provide both short-term respite and long-term stability in bill payments, especially benefiting low-income households, small business owners, farmers, and rural consumers.

The administration thinks the program will improve discipline and trust in the state’s power structure in addition to providing customers with financial support.
