Wing Commander Namash Syal cremated with full honours in Himachal; emotional tribute as wife, family, Air Force, and officials mourn the Tejas crash hero.

In Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, Air Force Wing Commander Afshan paid her final respects to her husband, Wing Commander Namash Syal , who lost his life in Friday’s Tejas fighter aircraft crash in Dubai, filling the air and atmosphere with a sense of profound sadness and pain.

Hundreds of residents had come to pay their respects to Wing Commander Syal in his hometown of Kangra, where his lifeless remains were interred in a garlanded coffin, and to catch one last look at the fighter pilot.

However, the mood became even more solemn and tearful as Wing Commander Afshan, sobbing uncontrollably, came up to give her husband her farewell greetings.

The Tejas fighter plane that Wing Commander Syal was piloting crashed Friday afternoon while performing a low-altitude maneuver over Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central, killing him.

The aircraft suddenly lost altitude, nose-dived into the ground, and then caught fire, spewing dense, black smoke across the airfield, according to video evidence.

According to the Air Force, Syal, a Himachal Pradesh native in his mid-30s, died from his wounds.

On Friday, the mortal remains of Wing Commander Syal, whose coffin covered in the tricolor inspired pride and sorrow throughout the area, arrived in his hometown of Patialkar.

Floral tributes were presented by HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma, Tourism Development Corporation Chairman RS Bali, Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma, senior district authorities, and Indian Army and Air Force officers. The grieving family had already met with state leaders and officials at Gaggal Airport.

Fighter pilot Syal’s cousin Nishant performed the final rites for him as he was cremated with full military honors and a gun salute.

The images prior to the fighter pilot’s funeral showed a depressing scene as family members, neighbors, and Air Force representatives said a tearful goodbye to their hero.

Jagan Nath Syal, his father, described his son as a superb aerobatic and highly skilled pilot and added that his sacrifice was both a personal and a national loss.

The Air Force Honors Tribute

Wing Commander Syal was honored by the Air Force on Saturday, which described him as a committed fighter pilot with “unwavering commitment, exceptional skill, and an unyielding sense of duty.”

The Air Force paid honor to a fellow air fighter and his professional attributes in a post on X.

“A committed fighter pilot and meticulous professional, he served the country with unwavering dedication, extraordinary skill, and an uncompromising sense of duty.” Through a life of service, he developed a dignified image that garnered him much respect, as evidenced by the send-off that was attended by Indian Embassy officials, UAE authorities, friends, and colleagues. In this time of deep sorrow, the IAF honors his legacy of bravery, loyalty, and honor while also standing with his family. I hope that his service will be gratefully remembered.

“Brave and courageous IAF pilot” is how Defence Minister Rajnath Singh characterized Syal, and he sent his family his deepest sympathies.

The armed forces firmly support the grieving family, according to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan.

In addition to expressing their sorrow, political figures honored his bravery and dedication, including Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress.

HOW THE CRASH OCCURRED

A better look at the last seconds before impact was provided by the most recent footage of the Tejas disaster at the Dubai Airshow.

The clip shows Wing Commander Syal attempting to eject, but the aircraft was too low for a safe escape.

The pilot was killed when the Tejas abruptly crashed and burst into a fireball while doing a low-altitude aerobatic maneuver.

A fleeting appearance of a parachute-like device during the 49–52 second mark suggested a last-minute effort at ejection. Given the jet’s excellent safety record, investigators think the pilot might have been attempting to stabilize it.

But only after an investigation will the precise cause of the crash be known. To determine what caused the catastrophe, the IAF established a court of inquiry.

The 37-year-old Wing Commander Syal, who lived in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, was cremated on Sunday. His seven-year-old daughter and wife Afshan survive him.
