Bollywood star Anil Kapoor praises Tom Cruise for his Honorary Oscar at Governors Awards, celebrating the Mission Impossible co-star’s cinematic legacy.

Bollywood celebrity Anil Kapoor congratulated Hollywood icon Tom Cruise on his Academy Honorary Oscar victory at the Governors Awards on social media.

Kapoor wrote a heartfelt statement for Cruise and shared a still photo of him accepting the coveted trophy. “Congratulations on this amazing honor, dear friend. Your generosity, discipline, and devotion are unparalleled. You have always been admired by the globe, and now you are receiving the recognition you so rightly deserve,” Anil wrote.

“Your accomplishment is a tribute to all the artists worldwide who put their all into the film industry,” he continued. “Thank you for your friendship and your genius, which I will always treasure,” he wrote, tagging Tom Cruise on social media.

Alejandro González Iñárritu, the director of Tom Cruise’s untitled forthcoming film, which is scheduled for release in October 2026, presented the trophy to Cruise on November 16, 2025. Tom Cruise was observed becoming a touch teary-eyed during his acceptance speech. “I travel the world with the movie theater. It enables me to value and honor diversity. It also demonstrates to me how similar we are in a great number of aspects and our common humanity,” Tom remarked. “And regardless of our backgrounds, we laugh, feel, and hope together in that theater, and that is the power of this art form,” he continued. And that is the reason it is important; that is the reason it is important to me. Making movies is therefore who I am, not what I do.

The actor from Mission Impossible went on to say, “I have loved movies since I was as young as I can remember. It appeared to just explode on the screen as I looked up, remembering the beam of light cutting across the room when I was a small child in a darkened theater. All of a sudden, the globe seemed far bigger than the one I was familiar with.

“And whole cultures and lives and landscapes all unfolded in front of me, and it sparked something,” the actor continued. It ignited a desire for exploration, learning, and a desire to comprehend people, develop characters, tell stories, and travel the world. “It opened my eyes,” he added. It let me see that life may go far beyond what I had previously thought were the limits of my own existence. I have been chasing that ambition to open the world ever since that beam of light opened it.

Speaking of Anil Kapoor and Tom Cruise’s relationship, the two actors costarred in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. 2011 saw the release of the film.
