Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and ministers welcomed World Champions Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur in Mohali, celebrating India’s historic Women’s World Cup win.

World Champions Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur were welcomed with great fanfare by the Punjab government upon their arrival at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali. Amid applause, drumming, and jubilant celebrations, the State Government, District Administration, and Sports Department extended a warm welcome to the pair, who were part of India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup-winning squad.

The ceremony was led by MLA Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Member of Parliament Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Councilor Sarbjeet Singh Samana, Jaswant Kaur, and Prabhjot Kaur, the chairperson of the District Planning Board, joined them. With dhol beats, floral garlands, and boisterous applause from supporters and admirers, Punjab’s pride was honored in an electrifying environment at the airport.

“On the international stage, our daughters have brought pride to Punjab and the entire nation,” Cheema stated. In the near future, the Chief Minister will recognize Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur for their noteworthy accomplishment. He continued by saying that the Punjab government is giving players government employment and financial incentives under the new Sports Policy, which will help the state regain its status as India’s top sports destination.

A new revolution in women’s cricket would be brought about by India’s World Cup success, according to MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer. He pointed out that this victory shows that world-class athletes are coming from Punjab’s small towns and villages and is the product of perseverance and teamwork. As examples for the next generation, he mentioned Shubman Gill, Harmanpreet Kaur, Arshdeep Singh, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur.

According to Harleen Deol and Amanjot Kaur, the warm reception they received in their home state has motivated them to put in even more effort. They also complimented the Punjab Government and Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann for honoring athletes. They urged parents to support their daughters in following their goals and celebrating their successes. Additionally, both players thanked their coaches, families, and the BCCI for their unwavering support and direction.

Both athletes were welcomed with flower petals and traditional music as they waved to the applauding throng from open jeeps during the airport celebrations, which culminated in a magnificent victory march through the streets of Mohali. Parents B.S. Deol and Charanjit Kaur, brother Manjot Singh, and sister Kamaljot were among those in attendance, along with Amanjot Kaur’s father Bhupinder Singh, grandfather Ishar Singh, and coach Nagesh Gupta.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Dronacharya Awardee Jiwanjot Singh Teja (Director, PIS Training Center), District Sports Officer Rupesh Kumar Begra, and several sports fans and supporters joined in honoring Punjab’s world champions.
