Punjab Police seized goods worth ₹57.47 crore in Tarn Taran under Election Commission orders ahead of the bye-election, ensuring strict monitoring.
The Punjab Police have seized goods worth approximately Rs 57.47 crore after the Model Code of Conduct was put into effect for the bye-election to the 21-Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency. This was done on the orders of the Election Commission.
From October 7 (the day the Model Code of Conduct went into effect) to November 3, the Punjab Police in Tarn Taran constituency seized 51,429.50 liters of liquor worth Rs 32,89,160, narcotics worth Rs 56,67,10,500 (21,811.10 grams), cash worth Rs 9,73,480, and other items worth Rs 37,85,700.
Sibin C, the Chief Electoral Officer, said the police have been told to keep an eye on all checkpoints in the constituency 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using CCTV cameras to stop unlawful smuggling. He went on to say that strict action is being taken against anyone who tries to sway voters by giving them money or other free things during the elections.
The total number of voters and voting places in the area
Sibin C said that there are 1,92,838 voters in the Tarn Taran constituency. This includes 1,00,933 men, 91,897 women, and 8 people of a third gender. There are 1,357 service voters, 1,657 voters over the age of 85, 306 NRI voters, and 1,488 voters with impairments. There are 3,333 young people between the ages of 18 and 19 who can vote.
He also said that there are 222 polling places set up at 114 polling station sites, 60 of which are in cities and 162 of which are in the country.
