Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut takes a break from public life due to health issues. PM Modi wishes him a speedy recovery amid upcoming Maharashtra elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Sanjay Raut, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), a speedy recovery, just after the latter declared he was taking a hiatus from public life because of a “serious health issue.”
The discussion started when Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP and a leading member of the Shiv Sena’s Uddhav group, disclosed his illness. “Praying for your speedy recovery and good health, Sanjay Raut Ji,” Prime Minister Modi wrote on X.
In Hindi, Raut acknowledged the message and said, “Thank you, Respected Prime Minister Ji! You have my family’s gratitude! Jai Hind! “Jai Maharashtra!”

Raut told his fans on X that he is receiving therapy and has been told not to engage with people in public. “All of you have trusted and loved me. However, I am receiving therapy for severe health problems that I have developed. He wrote, “I’ll get through this,” hoping to be well by the next year. “As per medical advice, I have been asked not to step out or mingle in public.”
On November 1, Raut was supposed to take part in an opposition demonstration against the Election Commission.
Raut’s brief absence from the public spotlight coincides with Maharashtra preparing for a number of important local body elections. Zilla Parishad elections are scheduled for December, with municipal council elections expected to take place in mid-November. January is probably when the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections would be held.

After the 2022 split, the BMC—which the united Shiv Sena dominated for more than 20 years—became a crucial political and symbolic battleground for Raut’s party. Raut is a crucial strategist and the most outspoken representative of the faction commanded by Uddhav Thackeray, therefore his absence in the lead-up to these elections will be felt deeply.
Raut has been a harsh and unrelenting critic of the national administration and Prime Minister Modi.
The Prime Minister’s “Ek hai toh safe hai” slogan was criticized by him in November 2024, saying, “People are already safe in Maharashtra, but whenever Modi visits, the state becomes unsafe as he instigates divisions and provokes unrest.”
This came after Raut accused PM Modi of “using his office for campaigning” in violation of the Model Code of Conduct prior to the Lok Sabha elections in April 2024, and that he had just visited Mumbai in order to “search for land to give to (Gautam) Adani.”
He has also criticized the judiciary and foreign policies. “Do you have the guts to conduct a surgical strike on China?” Raut asked the Prime Minister in August 2023 in response to China’s unveiling of a new map.
He expressed “doubts if we will get justice” in the current Maharashtra disqualification case when he questioned PM Modi’s visit to the home of then Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud for Ganpati puja in September 2024.
With one of the opposition’s most well-known voices momentarily on the sidelines, the political theater in Maharashtra is poised for a succession of crucial election fights as Sanjay Raut takes a break to concentrate on his health.
