AAP Delhi uses videos, satire, and social media to challenge BJP on Yamuna pollution and failed cloud seeding experiments, boosting political visibility.

The Delhi branch of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been on the attack for the last 15 days. The party seems to have figured out how to sabotage the high-profile public events of the ruling regime, from questioning the plans for a “clean Yamuna Chhath Ghat” at Vasudev Ghat to cornering the Rekha Gupta-led BJP government on air pollution. Saurabh Bharadwaj is at the heart of this updated approach.

The AAP’s Delhi chief, a former Delhi minister, has devised fresh strategies to challenge the BJP-led Delhi administration. Bharadwaj produced a “walk-through” video, a TV-style ground report, in response to rumors that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might take a holy dip at Vasudev Ghat during the Chhath celebrations. The video claimed that an artificial pond had been constructed at the location using “clean Ganga water brought from Sonia Vihar WTP.”

PM Modi’s eagerly awaited visit did not occur at the morning Argha of Chhath. AAP portrayed this as a political win even though no formal announcement has ever verified such a visit.

BHARADWAJ’S VIDEO GETS VIEWS

Members of the Trinamool Congress were among the INDIA bloc leaders who approved and widely circulated Bharadwaj’s video from Vasudev Ghat. Bharadwaj used a lab test result from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) dated October 23 that revealed dangerously high levels of fecal coliform (human waste) in the river water to support his assertion that the Yamuna is still heavily contaminated. Additionally, he reminded detractors of how BJP officials have earlier criticized the Kejriwal administration for using chemical defoamers and polluting the Yamuna.

“REINVENTED TOOLKIT” by AAP

Official documents, government directives, “ground report” videos, and social media-friendly satire of the administration are now all part of AAP Delhi’s reimagined communication strategy. Spoof songs and “roast-style” news briefings have come to characterize this assertive new strategy.

The unsuccessful cloud seeding initiatives of the BJP government have given them more ammunition. In order to refute the allegations of “artificial rain,” Bharadwaj and his colleagues shot a number of films from several locations in Delhi, including the Delhi Secretariat. These satirical videos immediately became popular on the internet.

AAP released another spoof song featuring Bharadwaj, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha, and several spokespersons holding umbrellas indoors in a lighthearted jab at the government’s botched rain experiment, while Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa later clarified that the cloud seeding experiment had failed because of weather conditions.

COORDINATION AND STRATEGY

AAP insiders claim that Bharadwaj personally meets and conducts conference calls with party spokespersons to educate them on the technical facets of Delhi’s water and air pollution problems and how to properly discuss them in media discussions and on social media. These internal strategy sessions are said to be the cause of the influx of “walk-through” movies that cover anything from waterlogging to declining air quality.

There is now a clear race among party members to find new documents and come up with original, frequently snarky methods to criticize Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her administration.

CONGRESS IS PART OF THE FRAY

The Congress party also got in after the AAP’s popular Vasudev Ghat films and its persuasive story about the “artificial rains.” In an effort to corner the BJP administration and garner attention on social media, the Delhi Youth Congress filed a “Barish Chori” (Rain Theft) complaint at the Parliament Street Police Station.

The Delhi administration has halted the cloud seeding operation due to unfavorable humidity levels in the face of growing criticism. Originally designed to fight pollution and enhance the BJP government’s reputation, the experiment has turned into a potent political tool for its rivals.
