Punjab govt appoints Dr. Basant Garg as new CMD of PSPCL and PSTCL after removing IAS officer A.K. Sinha; state mulls land sale to raise funds.

Dr. Basant Garg was named the new CMD of Punjab State Power Transmission Corporation and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) after the Punjab Govt dismissed A K Sinha, a senior IAS officer, as chairman and managing director.

In an effort to raise much-needed funds, the state government is currently considering selling off PSPCL’s land. This coincides with the Power Department’s change of leadership. The state power utilities’ unions at all levels have been against the move.

Sinha has not been assigned to any posts and is currently one of the officers who have not been assigned for months. The IAS officer from the 1996 batch has been directed to report to the department of personnel in the directives that were issued.

According to Chief Secretary K A P Sinha’s directives, Ajoy Kumar Sinha will receive new posting orders in the future.

In addition to being the Administrative Secretary of the Power department, Garg has been assigned the responsibility for the two firms listed above.

Garg is replaced as the Agriculture Department’s Administrative Secretary by Arshdeep Singh Thind, while Sanyam Aggarwal takes over as the Anti-Drug Campaign Nodal Officer.
