Punjab allows stilt parking in new residential buildings to ease street congestion. Experts urge strict implementation for better traffic and vehicle safety.

Although it is a very positive move, the Punjab government’s decision to permit stilt parking in future new residential structures must be fully implemented because parking problems have grown to be a major problem in residential neighborhoods.

According to a statement released here on Wednesday by Sanjay Goel, a prominent architect and former director of Ludhiana Smart City Ltd., residents may easily build a lift and stair block if necessary, while using the remaining ground floor for parking. “Otherwise, the streets are filled with vehicles, and at many places even the available road space is insufficient,” he continued.

Parking on the property, Goel emphasized, would assist ease traffic on city streets in addition to ensuring vehicle safety.

While the government’s decision to permit architects to self-certify is praiseworthy, he added that building owners must closely follow construction ordinances in order to improve the organization and livability of communities.
