IEI Ludhiana Local Center celebrated World Standards Day 2025 with AGM, expert sessions on SDG 17, and announced the new executive committee.

The Institution of Engineers (India) Ludhiana Local Center commemorated World Standards Day and its Annual General Meeting.

Bhushan Kumar, Marketing Manager of Verka Milk Plant in Ludhiana, was the Chief Guest at the event. Dr. Arvind Dhingra, Chairman of the IEI in Ludhiana, welcomed the attendees and gave an overview of the different activities the organization engages in.

Traditional lamp lighting kicked off the ceremony. The origins and legacy of the Institution of Engineers (India) were described by Brig. (Retd.) Mastinder Singh, former chairman of the IEI in Ludhiana.

The Ludhiana Local Center’s Annual Report, which highlighted the center’s numerous technical events, was presented by Er. Surinder Singh, Secretary, IEI, Ludhiana. Kushgra Mittal, Dy. Manager, BIS, Chandigarh, gave an expert session in honor of World Standards Day. Every year in October, the World Standards Day is observed. “Shared vision for a better world: Spotlight on SDG 17-Partnerships for the Goals” was this year’s topic.

Dr. Arvind Dhingra gave a quick overview of the issue, describing how standards offer a common framework that facilitates meaningful cooperation between organizations, governments, and industries in order to accomplish shared goals. The campaign’s goal is to provide specific instances that show the value of collaboration and the strength of partnerships through standards.

Mittal began his speech by outlining the history and origins of BIS. Then he clarified that crops were subject to regional standards. He also described the steps involved in the formation of a standard. He clarified that there are currently 1117 obligatory requirements that mostly impact consumers. There are over 23,000 standards in total. He went into great length on how jewelry is hallmarked and how to read it to determine its purity. He disclosed that there were eight BIS sample testing laboratories located throughout the nation. He described the BIS care app and its features.

The ceremony was attended by student volunteers from the Gulzar Group of Institutions in Khanna and the Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Ludhiana.

The house was introduced to the new 2025–2027 squad.

For 2025–2027, Dr. Sudeep Banerjee would serve as the secretary and Er. Balwinder Singh as the chairman of the Ludhiana center. The house was also introduced to the newly elected executive committee members for 2025–2027: Dr. Harwinder Singh, Dr. Parminder Singh, Dr. Rajwinder Singh Bansal, Er. Surjit Singh, and Dr. Rucha Joshi.

Incoming Secretary Dr. Sudeep Banerjee gave a formal vote of gratitude to conclude the meeting.
