PM Modi launches ₹2.2 lakh crore maritime projects, boosting India’s shipbuilding, ports, and seafarers, highlighting global leadership in shipping.

In an effort to boost India’s maritime industry, PM Modi has started projects valued at 2.2 lakh crore rupees. India is stepping up its efforts to achieve new heights in shipbuilding, Mr. Modi said yesterday at the Maritime Leaders Conclave in Mumbai. India’s ports, he claimed, are now among the most effective in the developing world. He claimed that the amount of goods handled by Indian ports this year had broken all previous records. In many ways, he claimed, they are outperforming those in the industrialized world.

The Prime Minister noted that Memorandums of Understanding worth lakhs of crores of rupees had also been signed in the shipping industry, and that various projects linked to the shipping sector were launched during the conclave. “The attendance of participants from 85 countries at the event is a testament to their shared commitment,” he said.

Mr. Modi claimed that India’s economy is being driven by the maritime industry. Additionally, he stated that the marine industry is growing rapidly and energetically, making this the ideal time to work and grow in India’s shipping industry. By pointing out that the number of Indian seafarers has grown from 1.25 lakh to over three lakh in the last ten years, he further highlighted India’s superior maritime people resources. He emphasized that, in terms of seafarer numbers, India is currently among the top three nations in the world.

In the face of international tensions, economic disruptions, and changing supply chains, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India is a symbol of inclusive progress, peace, and strategic autonomy. This event was attended by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Shantanu Thakur, and Kirti Vardhan Singh.
