Rajasthan raises minimum working age to 14, limits teen night work, extends daily hours to 10, and strengthens women’s safety in factories.

The Rajasthan Institute of Shops and Commerce (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, has been adopted by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. In addition to this ruling, the state has prioritized corporate activity and worker safety and wellbeing. Under the new rule, no shop or business establishment will be able to hire minors under the age of 14. The trainee’s minimum age was raised from 12 to 14 years old.

In addition, it is illegal to hire teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 at night. This limit was formerly set at 12 to 15 years. The government thinks these changes will provide kids better chances for health, nutrition, and education. The regulation has raised the maximum amount of time employees can work each day from nine to ten hours. Overtime will now be limited to no more than 144 hours every quarter.

The 2025 Rajasthan Factory (Amendment) Rules have been adopted.

According to the state administration, it will boost corporate institutions’ production and efficiency. Children aged 12 to 15 were allowed to work no more than three hours a day under the previous regulations. This limit was raised from 14 to 18 years old following the modification. Additionally, the Rajasthan Factory (Amendment) Rules, 2025 have been passed by the Chief Minister.

This has permitted women to work in specific types of factories. Concurrently, new clauses have been introduced pertaining to women’s rights to privacy and safety in the workplace. The new regulations will allow other women to work in factories, with the exception of pregnant and lactating women, but companies will need to supply them with protective gear for their respiratory systems, masks, gloves, and face and heat shields.

Additionally, plans for safety training and air quality will be guaranteed. These revisions were implemented by the state government as part of the Government of India’s compliance reduction and deregulation program, which focused on providing women workers with greater opportunity and flexibility in their work limits.
