To keep young teens safe on its platform, Instagram has made it such that all accounts controlled by people 18 or under automatically opt into 13+ content settings. They can’t change these settings without their parents’ permission. The change would bring Instagram’s rules about content for teens more in line with those of PG-13 movies, which are meant to keep young users safe from graphic violence, sexual activity, or its description, drug use, and strong language.

Instagram termed this modification its “most significant update” to teen accounts since they were first launched last year in a post on the site. The platform’s AI-powered age prediction algorithm will also help catch minors who say they are adults. This will make sure that these individuals are put in the right protection settings.
Instagram admits that its system isn’t flawless and that some individuals may still see graphic content or swear words, but company is trying to lower the chances of these things happening. The upgrade adds to the present automated protections that were only available for home use and were automatically applied to all cloud apps. Now, they apply to every file that a user views using SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business content filtering.
