Haryana CM Nayab Saini assures justice to IPS officer Y Puran Kumar’s family as SIT probe begins into alleged suicide; opposition demands independent inquiry.

Haryana CM Nayab Saini assured the family members of an IPS officer who committed suicide in his initial public remarks on Saturday that they would receive justice. On tuesday Y Puran Kumar, a 52-year-old Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 2001 cohort, is presumed to have committed suicide at his Sector-11 residence. There is a “final note” that he has left behind.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana is enduring criticism from the opposition due to the alleged suicide of the officer. Leaders are requesting an independent investigation into his death.

In Panchkula, Saini stated that Kumar’s relatives have expressed their desire for justice during his address to a group of BJP workers.

“I have stated that we will investigate the matter, and the chief minister will take action against any individual who is found to be guilty, regardless of their status.”

In addition, he stated that he has conversed with the wife of the officer, Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Amneet P Kumar.

He stated, “We are also in contact with the Centre to resolve this matter.”

Saini advised the opposition parties to refrain from indulging in political discourse regarding the matter.

He also stated that “we will ensure justice” if the officer’s family believes that injustice has been committed.

“Justice will be served to the family,” declared the chief minister.

Saini described Puran Kumar’s death as regrettable and stated that he had requested two officers to accompany the officer’s wife on her return to India from Japan shortly after she was informed of her husband’s passing.

When her spouse allegedly committed suicide in Chandigarh, Amneet Kumar was a member of a delegation led by Saini on a three-day tour of Japan.

Her husband’s murder, she claims, was the consequence of “systematic persecution” by high-ranking officers.

Saini met Amneet Kumar upon his arrival from Japan to offer his condolences.

Based on the officer’s “final note,” the Chandigarh Police registered a FIR on Thursday on allegations of abetment to suicide and under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

In the eight-page “final note,” Puran Kumar has accused numerous senior IPS officers, including the Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rohtak, of harassing and maligning him.

Chandigarh Police established a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Friday to conduct a “prompt, impartial, and thorough” investigation into the matter within a specified timeframe.

Chandigarh’s Inspector General (IG) Pushpendra Kumar will serve as the SIT’s leader.

In a complaint submitted to the Chandigarh Police on Wednesday, Amneet Kumar requested a FIR against Kapur and Bijarniya under section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abetment to suicide) and the pertinent provisions of the SC-ST Act. She demanded their immediate detention.

Puran Kumar has identified eight senior IPS officers in his “final note,” including Kapur and Bijarniya.
