Bhim Mahabahadur Jora Killed in Late-Night Police Encounter
In a major breakthrough against organised crime, the Special Staff of Delhi Police’s South-East District and the Gurugram Crime Branch neutralised dreaded Nepalese criminal Bhim Mahabahadur Jora in a fierce encounter near Aastha Kunj Park, East of Kailash, during the intervening night of October 6 and 7.
According to DCP South-East Hemant Tiwari, the operation was launched after police received a credible tip-off regarding Jora’s movement in the area. A joint team led by Inspector Rajender Singh Dagar, In-charge of Special Staff (South-East District), and Inspector Narender Sharma, In-charge of Crime Branch (Gurugram), was immediately constituted to intercept the accused.
The police team surrounded the park shortly after midnight. “When confronted, Jora opened indiscriminate fire, discharging six rounds to escape. The team retaliated with five rounds. During the exchange, the accused sustained bullet injuries,” Tiwari said. He was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Who Was Bhim Mahabahadur Jora?
The deceased was identified as Bhim Mahabahadur Jora (39), son of Mahabahadur Jora, a resident of Lalpur in Kailali District, Nepal. Police officials said he was a notorious interstate criminal involved in multiple heinous crimes, including murder, dacoity, and burglary across several states—Delhi, Gurugram, Gujarat, and Bengaluru.
Jora had been wanted for the armed dacoity and brutal murder of Dr. Paul in Jangpura, New Delhi, in May 2024. Delhi Police had announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to his arrest.
Officials added that he had recently been linked to a high-profile burglary at a BJP leader’s residence in Gurugram. Despite several attempts by law enforcement to apprehend him, Jora managed to evade capture for months, frequently changing locations across states.
Recovered Weapons and Evidence
During the operation, police recovered a sophisticated automatic pistol, one live round, several empty cartridges, and a bag containing house-breaking tools from Jora’s possession. Officials stated that these materials would be sent for forensic analysis to trace their origin and link them with past crime scenes.
A senior police officer said, “The recovery of a modern firearm and burglary equipment clearly indicates Jora’s involvement in an organised criminal network. We are now focusing on identifying his associates and tracing the flow of weapons.”
The operation’s success, according to police sources, underscores the coordination between Delhi and Gurugram law enforcement units. The Special Task Force had been tracking Jora for several weeks, using surveillance inputs and informant leads before launching the raid.
Crackdown on Organised Crime in Delhi-NCR
The encounter comes amid Delhi Police’s intensified crackdown on interstate gangs and repeat offenders. Officials revealed that several teams are currently tracking criminal networks operating between Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
“Interstate criminals like Jora often exploit jurisdictional gaps. Our focus is on coordination across agencies to ensure that such offenders do not find safe havens,” said a senior police officer.
In a separate development, Delhi Police’s West District team solved a house theft case and arrested four accused. The team recovered 156 grams of gold worth ₹20 lakh and ₹9.96 lakh in cash, adding another success to the capital’s recent crime control efforts.
Investigation and Future Course
Police have initiated a detailed probe to uncover Jora’s criminal network, sources of funding, and links with other gangs. Teams are scanning digital evidence, mobile data, and CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify his contacts in Delhi-NCR.
Officials believe Jora had been using Delhi as a base for planning crimes across multiple states. His death, however, is expected to expose crucial details about transnational crime syndicates involving operatives from Nepal and India.
The authorities have also shared the encounter details with Nepalese law enforcement agencies, seeking assistance in tracing his background and possible accomplices still active in the region.
