PM Modi to Inaugurate NIT Patna Bihta Campus Today; Phase 1 Completed on 60 Acres to Host 2,500 Students Studying Electronics & Computer Science
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally open the first phase of the recently built National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna campus in Sikandarpur, Bihta campus. Video conferencing will be used for the inauguration.
At a news conference on Friday, NIT Patna Director Dr. Pramod Kumar Jain provided this information.
Overview and Construction of the Project
For the new campus, 125 acres of land were allotted by the Bihar state government. The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) began construction of the first phase in August 2022, with a projected cost of Rs 500 crore. This phase, which is currently 95% finished, was built on 60 acres and contains 2,500 student housing and academic facilities. The campus as a whole is eventually planned to house 6,500 students.
Campus Operations and Phased Relocation
The new Bihta campus will initially solely house second and third-year students from the Computer Science and Electronics departments. The old Patna campus will remain the place of study for first-year students. Additionally, NIT will continue to run the current campus, where the departments of architecture and civil engineering will continue to operate.

Bihta campus Characteristics and Goals
With solar panels mounted on every building to provide renewable energy, the new campus has been designed as an entirely environmentally friendly concept. Modern amenities are available throughout the site, including:
- Academic Divisions
- The Administrative Block
- The Library and Data Center
- The Center for Innovation and Incubation
- Students’ separate hostels
- Mess and Canteen
- Accommodations for Staff and Teachers
- – Sports Field and Student Activity Center
According to Dr. Jain, NIT will be able to expand its student body and offer cutting-edge programs that meet industry expectations and the most recent technical developments thanks to the new facilities. “We are fully confident that the Bihta campus will certainly boost the institute’s growth momentum and will play a significant role in helping the state of Bihar achieve new dimensions in the fields of education and research,” he stated.
