UP Police stop 240-ft  Ravana effigy burning ahead of Dussehra 2025 due to security issues and missing approvals.

Ayodhya: Ravana effigy and other Massive effigies of Meghnad, and Kumbhkaran cannot be burned at Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh police said Monday, citing security concerns. The 240-foot-tall Ravana effigies and the 190-foot-tall effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhkaran were to be burned during Dussehra, according to officials. Construction of the enormous effigies had been going on for the previous month at Ram Katha Park, where the celebration was being organized by the Film Artist Ramleela Committee. According to Ayodhya Circle Officer Devesh Chaturvedi, the action was done with security regulations in mind. He also drew attention to the fact that the event’s organizers had not secured prior authorization. “During patrolling, when the construction of these effigies was noticed, action was taken,” he stated.

Keeping Ravana from burning is regarded as unlucky.

Film Artist Ramleela Committee founder and president Subhash Malik, however, was disappointed by the last-minute ban. Three days prior to the implementation of the ban, he claimed, craftsmen from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and other states had finished building the 240-foot Ravana and other effigies. “The effigies that cost thousands of rupees will now be useless. A Ravana effigy made for Dussehra is said to be unlucky if it is not burned, he said.

In addition, Malik urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh to permit the destruction of the 240-foot statues of Ravana, Meghnad, and Kumbhkaran in Ayodhya. “I am a small worker of the BJP and have been actively involved in organising the grand Ramleela in Ayodhya for the past seven years,” he said.

The Ram Lila will continue till October 2, when the towering 240-foot effigy of Ravana, along with 190-foot effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhakaran, will be burned, the Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement. Founder president Subhash Malik said that a team of 60 artisans from four states crafted the massive effigies, blending technology with traditional artistry.
