Director Abhinav Kashyap revealed Ranbir Kapoor wanted Katrina Kaif in Besharam and rejected his original heroine choice, impacting the film’s connection with viewers.

After making news for his shocking allegations on Salman Khan, Abhinav Kashyap has once again sparked excitement in Bollywood. This time, while filming the 2013 film Besharam, the director revealed some intriguing facts about Ranbir Kapoor. The fantastic cast of Abhinav Kashyap’s action-comedy film included actress Pallavi Sharda, the renowned Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, who played the humorous police pair Inspectors Chulbul and Bulbul Chautala, and Ranbir Kapoor as the vehicle thief Babli.

The filmmaker of Dabangg recently reminisced about his time spent filming Besharam. The film’s main character, Ranbir Kapoor, put a lot of pressure on the filmmaker to cast his then-girlfriend Katrina Kaif during the casting of Besharam, the director disclosed in a recent interview with Bollywood Thikana. He also recalled how Salman Khan put similar pressure on him to cast Katrina Kaif, his then-girlfriend, during the filming of Dabangg.

“No, Ranbir had asked me, ‘She wants to do the film, so consider her,'” the filmmaker revealed. “She is not suitable for the role; I need a Punjabi from Delhi,” I remarked. I couldn’t have concealed my accent, and Katrina needed to work on it. Since she was unable to speak Hindi, it was evident in all of her previous films that she was either a foreigner or an NRI. Either she was living overseas or she had studied there. Additionally, Abhinav Kashyap stated that he has never had any issues with Katrina Kaif and has even promised her that he will approach her first anytime he casts for an NRI character.

Additionally, he stated that Sonakshi Sinha was his initial pick for the main actress, but the Barfi star declined to collaborate with her. Many performers approached me since it was a sought-after role. When I first intended to cast Sonakshi, Ranbir told me, “Not Sonakshi, I’m not comfortable with her.” You’ll have to ask him why he feels uncomfortable. He said, “I told him that I wasn’t at ease with Katrina.”

Pallavi Sharda, who had previously played a minor part in My Name Is Khan, eventually won the role. Abhinav Kashyap openly talked about how some even confused him with Pallavi since they couldn’t believe a novice could take on such a significant role. He said Pallavi got the part after trying out a number of women, including Swara Bhasker, Tamannaah Bhatia, Parineeti Chopra, and Taapsee Pannu.
