by Aastha Chawla

The 9th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting will be presided over by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on July 27, 2024, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Center in New Delhi. The goal of this year’s theme, “Viksit Bharat@2047,” is to see India become a developed country.

Discussions on the Approach Paper for the Vision Document on Viksit Bharat @2047 will take place during the Governing Council Meeting. By bolstering the methods by which government interventions are delivered, the conference seeks to promote cooperative governance and participative governance between the federal government and state governments, thereby improving the standard of living for people living in both rural and urban areas.

In-depth discussions regarding the role of states in accomplishing Viksit Bharat @2047 will also take place during the meeting.

With a GDP of over $5 trillion and goals to achieve a US$ 30 trillion economy by 2047, India is expected to become the third-biggest economy in the world. In order to realize the goal of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, the Central and State governments must work together.

Creating a roadmap for this vision and promoting cooperation between the Center and the States as “Team India” are the goals of the 9th Governing Council Meeting.

The suggestions of the Third National Conference of Chief Secretaries, which took place on December 27–29, 2023, will also be a priority for the NITI Aayog Governing Council. The Third National Conference of Chief Secretaries presented suggestions on the following five major subjects, all of which fell under the overall theme of “Ease of Living”:

1. Water for Drinking: Availability, Amount, and Standard

2. Electricity: Dependability, Effectiveness, and Quality

3. Health: Affordability, Availability, and Care Quality

4. Education: Availability and Caliber

5. Property and Land: Digitization, Registration, Accessibility, and Alteration

In addition, special sessions were organized to explore topics that were also covered during the Third National Conference of Chief Secretaries, including AI in Governance, the Role of States, Cyber Security, and the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Program.

The 3rd Chief Secretaries Conference took place at the end of December 2023, with a focus on these five major themes, in advance of NITI Aayog’s 9th Governing Council meeting. Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories as well as Secretaries of the Indian government participated in the consultation process to define the framework and offer recommendations for the “Viksit Bharat@2047” agenda.

The NITI Aayog’s chairperson is the prime minister. Chief Ministers and lieutenants’ governors of states and union territories, union ministers serving as special invitees and ex-officio members, and the vice chairman and members of NITI Aayog are among the other attendees.
