Crackdown on ACS Officer in Assam
Guwahati — The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell has seized more than ₹92 lakh in cash and a significant amount of gold jewellery from the residence of Nupur Bora a 2019-batch Assam Civil Services (ACS) officer. The raid has sparked a political and administrative storm in the state, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleging the officer was involved in facilitating illegal land transfers.
According to officials, Nupur Bora had been under surveillance for several months. The case revolves around allegations that she took bribes to transfer land belonging to Hindus to Muslims, despite government restrictions on such transactions.
CM Links Case to Land Transfer Irregularities
Speaking on the issue, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma accused the officer of exploiting her official position while serving as a circle officer in Barpeta.
“There is widespread corruption in minority-dominated revenue circles,” Sarma stated. “We monitored this officer for six months. She transferred Hindu land to Muslims in exchange for money. We are taking stern action against her.”
The chief minister highlighted that the officer’s case was symptomatic of a deeper malaise in Assam’s land administration system. He claimed that fraudulent land transfers threaten not only social harmony but also raise serious concerns about national security.
