Punjab Secures Top Rank in National Achievement Survey, CM Mann Promises Comprehensive Statewide Development
Sangrur, July 6: In a major achievement for Punjab’s public education system, the state has topped the National Achievement Survey (NAS), marking a significant leap from its 29th position in 2017. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, addressing a celebratory function in Sangrur, attributed the success to the tireless efforts of teachers and the transformative policies of his government. He reaffirmed his commitment to making Punjab a leading state in education, health, and development.
The NAS ranking, which evaluates student learning outcomes in government and government-aided schools, reflects the dramatic turnaround Punjab has witnessed under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration.
From 29th to 1st: A Journey of Transformation
Highlighting Punjab’s rise to the top in NAS 2025, CM Mann said, “Our teachers are the nation builders, and their dedication has made Punjab number one. From a dismal 29th rank in 2017 to the top spot today, this turnaround shows the strength of our education reforms.”
Mann emphasized the state’s focus on education as a cornerstone of governance, citing initiatives that prioritized learning quality, infrastructure upgrades, and community engagement through Parent Teacher Meetings (PTMs) — once common only in private schools.
Cultural Roots and Skill-Based Learning
Addressing the need for holistic development, CM Mann urged teachers to ensure students remain connected to Punjab’s rich cultural heritage. “Knowing one’s roots is crucial for personal development. Our goal is not just academic success but also to develop well-rounded citizens,” he said.
He also spoke about the state’s emphasis on skill development to make students employable and confident. “Dignity and pride in life come from skills, not just degrees,” Mann added.
Education Revolution: Breaking the Old Mold
Taking a swipe at previous administrations, Mann accused them of ignoring government schools in favor of elite private institutions. “In earlier regimes, leaders sent their children to hill-based convent schools, while government schools were reduced to midday meal centers,” he said.
Now, with merit-based appointments, improved teacher accountability, and modernized infrastructure, the government is driving what Mann called an “education revolution” in Punjab.

Former Delhi Deputy CM and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also spoke at the event, lauding Punjab’s performance. “Quality education was once a dream in government schools. That dream has turned into a movement in Punjab,” Sisodia said.
He acknowledged the role of teachers, principals, and staff in aligning with state education policies. “This is not just a milestone; it’s the beginning of a new era,” he said, noting that 24 lakh government school students now have a brighter future.
Merit-Based Jobs and Youth Empowerment
CM Mann also underscored his government’s commitment to transparency and youth empowerment, stating that over 54,000 jobs have been given purely on the basis of merit. “There is no room for nepotism or corruption. Our youth are now key players in Punjab’s socio-economic development,” he said.
What Lies Ahead
The Chief Minister exuded confidence that Punjab will continue to rise across sectors. “We have already started transforming school infrastructure. Teachers are now dedicated to teaching alone — no more being used for non-academic work. Our next focus is to ensure that this momentum continues and spreads to other critical areas like healthcare and electricity,” he said.
