Pushkar Singh Dhami Conducts Aerial Survey of Rain-Ravaged Uttarkashi, Vows Full Support to Victims
Uttarkashi — In response to the devastating impact of incessant rainfall in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of the worst-affected regions. The Chief Minister assessed the flood damage and landslides triggered by the ongoing monsoon fury and issued urgent directives to expedite relief and rescue operations.
Ground Reality from the Sky
During the aerial inspection, CM Dhami observed significant flooding in low-lying areas, disrupted roads, and landslide-affected zones. Multiple villages remain isolated due to washed-out roads and blocked mountain routes, leaving hundreds of families stranded.
Following the survey, the Chief Minister landed near one of the impacted zones to interact with locals and relief personnel, assessing the on-ground effectiveness of government measures.
Government’s Commitment: “No One Will Be Left Behind”
In a press briefing after his field visit, Dhami reaffirmed the government’s commitment to assist every affected citizen. “The state government stands shoulder-to-shoulder with every person hit by this calamity. No one will be allowed to suffer due to lack of essentials,” he said.
He emphasized that rescue and relief operations must be swift and efficient, and urged officials to ensure that ration, medical care, temporary shelters, and emergency supplies reach all remote areas without delay.
Rescue Teams Working Round the Clock
State disaster response forces (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police units have been deployed across the district. Helicopters and emergency boats are on standby to reach cut-off regions.
The Public Works Department (PWD) and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are engaged in clearing debris and restoring road connectivity. Teams are prioritizing critical highways like the Gangotri Highway, which was severely disrupted due to boulder slides.
Rain Continues to Pose Risk
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Uttarkashi and surrounding districts, warning of more moderate to heavy rainfalls in the coming 48 hours. Officials are closely monitoring river water levels and are on alert for potential flash floods or additional landslides.
Residents in vulnerable zones have been advised to evacuate to government-designated shelters. Schools and non-essential services in the region remain closed as a precautionary measure.
Dhami’s Disaster Management Track Record
This latest field visit by CM Dhami adds to his proactive reputation in handling natural calamities. Over the past two years, his administration has been noted for swift response mechanisms, including the deployment of drones, GPS-based monitoring of landslide-prone zones, and emergency funding for rebuilding infrastructure.
Officials said a detailed damage assessment report will be prepared after today’s visit, based on which financial compensation and rehabilitation packages will be allocated.
Appeal for Public Support and Caution
The Chief Minister also appealed to the people of Uttarakhand to stay alert, follow official advisories, and cooperate with evacuation efforts wherever needed.
“We are doing everything possible, but public awareness and participation are equally vital. Please report any emergency to the local control room and avoid unnecessary travel,” he said.
