Washington | December 30 : US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of “very powerful” consequences if it attempts to rebuild its missile programme. The warning comes amid unconfirmed reports suggesting Tehran may be reviving its ballistic missile infrastructure.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump issued a strong message. He said the United States would respond forcefully if Iran resumes weapons development.
Trump claimed he had seen intelligence reports indicating renewed Iranian activity. However, he added that the information had not yet been officially confirmed.
Despite the uncertainty, Trump said Iran already understands the risks involved.
Trump Issues Fresh Military Warning
During the media interaction, Trump suggested Iran could be rebuilding its military capabilities. He stressed that any such move would trigger a swift response.
“Now I hear that Iran is trying to build up again,” Trump said. He added that the US would “knock them down” if needed.
Trump used unusually blunt language to reinforce the threat. He stated that the consequences would be stronger than previous strikes.
Moreover, Trump said Iran missed an earlier opportunity for diplomacy. He claimed he had offered Tehran a deal in the past.
“Iran should have made a deal last time,” he said. He added that the option no longer remains open.
Trump also clarified that any rebuilding efforts may not involve previously targeted locations. He said Iran might be using new sites.
“If they are building again, they are not using the sites we obliterated,” Trump stated.
Iran Pushes Back With Strong Warning
Meanwhile, Iran responded sharply to Trump’s remarks. A top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader issued a stern warning on social media.
Ali Shamkhani said Iran’s defence capabilities are not negotiable. He warned of an “immediate harsh response” to any aggression.
“Iran’s missile capability and defence are not permission-based,” Shamkhani wrote on X. He added that retaliation would exceed enemy expectations.
The statement followed Trump’s earlier threat to “eradicate” Iran’s nuclear rebuilding attempts. Tehran has consistently rejected such warnings.
Iranian officials maintain that their defence programmes remain legal and sovereign.
Background of US Strikes on Iran
Earlier this year, the United States launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump repeatedly described the operation as a major success.
One of the targets included Fordow, a heavily fortified underground nuclear site. Reports suggest the US used six 30,000-pound bunker buster bombs.
These weapons can only be deployed by B-2 stealth bombers. The strike marked one of the most aggressive US actions against Iran in decades.
Trump has claimed the strikes “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear programme. However, independent verification remains limited.
Recent intelligence reports now suggest Iran may be shifting operations elsewhere. These developments have raised alarms in Washington and Tel Aviv.
Netanyahu Presses for Tougher Action
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also voiced concerns. He has warned that Iran is expanding its ballistic missile capabilities again.
Netanyahu is expected to push for stronger measures during talks with Trump. Israeli officials view Iran’s missile programme as a direct regional threat.
