Delhi NCR leads surge in air purifier sales as winter pollution worsens. HEPA filters and high-end models see record demand across India.
It wasn’t just the AQI numbers that skyrocketed in India this winter. When air pollution got so bad, sales of air purifiers hit a record high. Air purifier demand increased by 30% annually, according to a Croma research.
On December 4, the Tata-owned retailer released sales data based on purchases made from 225 outlets on both online and offline channels. Sales in Delhi NCR increased the most, indicating how bad the pollution situation has gotten for locals.
Pollution Drives Up Sales of Air Purifiers in India
Delhi NCR alone accounted for 72% of all air purifiers sold at Croma, according to the research, demonstrating the region’s severe problems with air quality. Karnataka provided 4%, while Maharashtra came in second with 12%.
According to a Croma representative, air purifiers are now regarded as year-round need, particularly for consumers in heavily polluted cities, rather than being seasonal or niche products.

Croma clarified that its primary objective is to assist purchasers in selecting the appropriate model according to price, health considerations, and room space. The ability of HEPA filters to eliminate dust, pollen, mold, and other dangerous particles makes them the most popular choice in terms of characteristics.
Many consumers also choose high-end versions with multiple layers of protection, such as UVC LED technology, activated carbon filters, and pre-filters to combat odors and pollutants.
India’s Top-Selling Air Purifier Brands and Budget Preferences
In India, white air purifiers were the most popular, accounting for 77% of sales, followed by black (19%) and metallic hues (4%). The price range of Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 accounted for 49% of Croma’s total sales and dominated the market.
With 36% of the market, the super-premium category came in second, indicating that more buyers are prepared to spend money on expensive models with higher room coverage and clever features.
According to the brand comparison, in 2025, Philips and Dyson combined accounted for 84% of all air purifier sales. Additionally, Croma posted its biggest weekly sales ever, accounting for 27% of its yearly air purifier sales in a single week.
Many customers took prompt action after viewing news updates and environmental advisories, according to the survey. Furthermore, 12% of consumers bought Croma’s ZipCare plans for extra support and warranties.
