Journalist’s body recovered after week-long search
The body of senior journalist Rajiv Pratap, missing since September 18, was found in Uttarkashi’s Joshiada Lake on Sunday. Police confirmed that search teams retrieved the body after extensive efforts. Deputy Superintendent of Police Janak Singh Panwar supervised the recovery.
Pratap’s disappearance had drawn widespread concern. His abandoned car was discovered on the bank of the Bhagirathi river on September 19, sparking suspicions of foul play.
A graduate of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Pratap had established a digital news platform called Delhi Uttarakhand Live. His sudden disappearance and tragic death have left the media fraternity in shock.
Family raises suspicion over journalist’s death
Pratap’s family has consistently maintained that his disappearance was suspicious. They believe there may have been foul play involved. The family urged authorities to ensure a transparent investigation.
The IIMC Alumni Association confirmed the journalist’s death in a social media post and echoed the family’s concerns. “We expect the police to come clean with transparency in this case,” the association said.
Government orders impartial investigation
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief and directed officials to conduct a thorough and impartial probe. He assured that no angle would be ignored.
The Chief Minister also extended condolences to the journalist’s family. He stressed that protecting the integrity of the press remains essential in a democracy.

Journalists across Uttarakhand and Delhi expressed shock over Pratap’s death. Many colleagues described him as a committed journalist with a sharp eye for regional issues. Tributes poured in on social media, where former classmates and peers demanded justice.
