Uttarakhand CM Dhami raises wildlife attack aid to ₹10L, promotes conservation, ecotourism, and youth programs.

At the beginning of Wildlife Week, Uttarakhand CM Dhami declared that the compensation for those killed in wildlife attacks would be raised to Rs 1,000,000. He highlighted the need of protecting wildlife, describing it as an essential component of Indian culture. The state government is dedicated to lowering conflict between people and wildlife and increasing ecotourism.

At the opening of Wildlife Week at the Dehradun Zoo on Friday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami declared a substantial increase in the amount of money available to compensate victims of attacks by wild animals, increasing it to Rs 10 lakh.

Citing instances from Sanatan tradition, where deities are related with animals, the Chief Minister emphasized that wildlife is an essential part of India’s faith and culture, sending a message of coexistence. “This is why wildlife conservation has been a natural part of India’s way of life since ancient times,” he stated.

He emphasized Uttarakhand’s strong environmental commitment, pointing out that six national parks, seven animal sanctuaries, and four conservation reserves cover 14.77 percent of the state’s area. This percentage is almost three times higher than the 5.27 percent national average.

Motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dhami stated that the government is striving to maintain a balance between the economy, ecology, and technology in order to preserve natural resources while promoting progress.

Important Projects and Upcoming Plans

The Chief Minister recognized the growing problem of human-wildlife conflict while applauding the positive rise in the numbers of endangered species such as tigers, leopards, elephants, and snow leopards. He listed a number of steps to deal with this:

Modern Technology: To better monitor and protect species, the Forest Department is acquiring technological tools like GPS and drones.

Eco-tourism: In order to maintain its natural shape, the Forest Department has been directed to find and create at least one new tourist site in each district.

Engagement of Youth: To help them start green businesses, 100,000 young people are being trained in skills like drone piloting, wildlife photography, and nature guiding through the ‘CM Young Eco-preneurs’ program. Eco-clubs are often used to plan educational field trips for students.

Public Appeal: The Chief Minister urged all visitors to abstain from littering in forests and at places of worship, citing Prime Minister Modi’s “Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE)” slogan.

In attendance, Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal reaffirmed that everyone bears responsibility for protecting forests and wildlife. Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, and other high-ranking officials were present at the occasion.
