Yogi Govt cuts recovery rate for coarse paddy by 1%, boosting prices for 15 lakh farmers and aiding 2,000 rice mills statewide.

The Yogi Govt has now pledged big help for rice farmers after giving perks to sugarcane farmers. The state has approved a one percent drop in the recovery rate for non-hybrid (coarse) paddy. This is expected to enable 13 to 15 lakh farmers get higher prices. The choice will also directly help about 2,000 rice mills in Uttar Pradesh.

The government already gives hybrid paddy a three percent break in recovery, and this will continue. On Tuesday at Lok Bhavan, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna claimed that the waiver was given because millers kept asking for it since they were not getting enough money from paddy milling.

According to rules from the central government, rice millers must give back 67 percent of the paddy as Custom Milled Rice (CMR). The Yogi government gave hybrid paddy a three percent break after taking office in 2017. This costs the state Rs 100 crore every year. There was no relaxation for coarse paddy until today. The new one percent relief will cost about Rs 166 crore.

Khanna stated that the move is likely to raise the price of paddy, stimulate mills to process more grain, and help more than two lakh people who work in rice mills right now. It might also lead to more job openings.

The state is currently buying paddy, and officials think they will buy more than they did last year. Ranveer Prasad, the Principal Secretary for Food and Civil Supplies, said that the department has made it easier for farmers to register and verify their information online. To keep an eye on procurement operations, cars are followed by GPS and stock inspections are done on a regular basis.

The government also raised the price of sugarcane by a record Rs 30 per quintal, which was a big help to sugarcane growers.
