CM Yogi Launches Scholarship Transfer in Lucknow
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday transferred ₹89.96 crore directly into the bank accounts of 3.96 lakh students under the state’s ongoing scholarship programme.
The announcement was made during a scholarship distribution event held in Lucknow, where the CM reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring timely financial support for students, particularly from marginalized communities.
“Education is a fundamental right, and the New Education Policy 2020, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has made it more inclusive,” Yogi said. He also revealed that the state is preparing to roll out a ‘One Nation, One Scholarship’ system that will enable students to access scholarships instantly upon admission.
Addressing Past Inequities in Scholarship Distribution
During his speech, the Chief Minister criticized past administrations for delaying or denying scholarships to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, citing incomplete data as the main reason.
“Before 2017, scholarships were often denied to Scheduled Tribe students due to incomplete records. Today, over four lakh students are receiving scholarships on time,” Yogi said.
He emphasized that any pending payments would be cleared before Diwali, and warned that officials found guilty of delays would face accountability measures. This statement came as a direct response to opposition claims of unequal treatment in education schemes.
Modi’s Role in Expanding Education Access
CM Yogi also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, pointing out how the central government has expanded opportunities for underprivileged students over the past decade.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Yogi wrote: “Education is crucial for achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Over the past 11 years, under PM Modi’s leadership, scholarships and fee reimbursement programmes have paved the way for the development of underprivileged students.”

The Chief Minister stressed that access to education remains a key driver of social equality and economic development, aligning his government’s efforts with the national agenda.
Scholarships as a Path to Inclusive Development
Education experts argue that timely scholarships are essential for ensuring that students from economically weaker sections are not forced to drop out due to financial challenges. By transferring nearly ₹90 crore to students, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to bridge gaps in educational access and improve retention rates.
Officials confirmed that the scholarship amounts have been deposited into student accounts through direct benefit transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and preventing leakages.

The upcoming One Nation, One Scholarship system is expected to transform the way students access financial aid across India. Once implemented, students will no longer have to wait for months to receive assistance. Instead, scholarships will be linked directly with admissions, streamlining the process and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.
According to officials, the scheme will integrate state and central databases, making it easier for students to track their applications and ensuring faster disbursements.
Education advocates have welcomed the move, noting that it will particularly benefit rural students and those from marginalized communities who often face barriers in navigating existing systems.

The Uttar Pradesh government has already expanded scholarship coverage in recent years, with a sharp focus on Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minorities, and economically weaker sections.
