CM Issues Stern Warning to Criminals
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed police officials and district magistrates to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against criminals ahead of the festival season.
In a high-level video conference review, the CM ordered the police to deal with goons, harassers, and disruptive elements “in their own language.” He expressed strong displeasure over recent law and order lapses, including the killing of a student by cattle smugglers in Gorakhpur, the alleged custodial death of a youth in Ghazipur, and a firing incident in Bareilly. He also flagged rising tensions in Meerut and alleged police collusion with cattle smugglers in Kushinagar.
Adityanath stressed that senior officers must personally handle sensitive cases and ensure preventive action against known troublemakers. He also urged district administrations to remain on high alert in Varanasi, where repeated law-and-order complaints have surfaced.
Mission Shakti 5 to Begin on Navratri
A major highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the fifth phase of Mission Shakti, a campaign focused on women’s safety. The month-long initiative will begin on September 22, the first day of Shardiya Navratri.
On September 21, women police personnel across districts will hold bike rallies to raise awareness. From the following day, Anti-Romeo Squads will be deployed near schools, colleges, and crowded public areas.
The CM also directed that “Pink Booths” remain active and women beat officers conduct awareness programs in villages. He further said women achievers under previous phases of Mission Shakti should be honored.
Security and Preparations for Festivals
With Navratri, Vijayadashami, and Diwali around the corner, the CM asked officials to ensure peace and order during the festivities. He instructed that plainclothes police personnel be deployed at puja pandals and other crowded places.
Departments have been tasked with maintaining cleanliness, uninterrupted power supply, and smooth traffic movement. He said effective teamwork and cooperation with citizens will be essential to avoid disturbances during the sensitive festive period.
Moreover, the administration has been directed to increase social media vigilance to counter rumors and misinformation, ensuring factual communication reaches the public quickly.
Comprehensive Directives Across Departments
Adityanath also issued wide-ranging instructions for various sectors:
- Law and Order: Senior officers must take responsibility for major cases. Preventive actions should target repeat offenders.
- Public Works: Road repair and renewal works must be completed before the festival rush. Drinking water and cleanliness at temples are mandatory.
- Healthcare: Hospitals must stock essential medicines, including anti-rabies doses and snake antivenom.
- Flood Relief: Relief kits must reach affected people promptly. Families of deceased victims should receive compensation within 24 hours. Land on higher ground should be allotted to displaced families.
- Agriculture and Welfare: Ensure timely fertiliser distribution, improve arrangements in cow shelters, and address public grievances in a time-bound manner.
- Vision 2047: Officials must identify five to ten prominent individuals in each district to gather suggestions for “Developed Uttar Pradesh – 2047.”
CM’s Call for Vigilance and Cooperation
Concluding the meeting, Adityanath said the festive season is a “sensitive time” that demands greater vigilance and teamwork. He stressed that maintaining order and public trust must remain a top priority for officials across the state.
The launch of Mission Shakti 5 and the directive for stronger policing underline his government’s dual focus: empowering women and cracking down on lawbreakers as Uttar Pradesh prepares for major celebrations.
