UP CM Yogi Adityanath hands over 72 flats in Lucknow on reclaimed mafia land, giving affordable housing to EWS families and fighting land grabbing.
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gives the keys to 72 flats built on property that was once controlled by mafia leader Mukhtar Ansari. This is a big step against unlawful land occupation. The mafia illegally owned this land in Dalibagh in the upscale Hazratganj area of Lucknow. The state had a zero-tolerance policy against land grabbing and organized crime, so they had to give it back.
Yogi Adityanath remarked on Wednesday, November 5, “Mafia will be gone and homes will be built for the poor.” He stressed that the mafia doesn’t belong to anyone and takes advantage of every impoverished individual it can. The Chief Minister said again that the government is committed to taking land back from mafias and using it to help the poor by giving them housing and job opportunities. This sent a strong message that this kind of exploitation will not be accepted any longer.
Apartments developed as part of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Scheme
The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Residential Scheme built the 72 units specifically for those in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The three-block building has ground plus three stories and each flat is 36.65 square meters. It is on Bandha Road, which is 20 meters wide, and is adjacent to important city locations such Balu Adda, 1090 Chauraha, Narhi, Sikandarbagh, and the Hazratganj Chauraha.
“I am lucky to be here in Lucknow on this day (Kartik Purnima) for the event where houses built on land that was freed from the control of a notorious mafia are being given away,” said UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
The process for applying for and winning the lottery
The lottery for these apartments took place on Tuesday, November 4, after people registered online from October 4 to November 3, 2025. The price of each unit is Rs 10.70 lakh, which is far lower than the market rate of over Rs 1 crore for such a premium neighborhood. The housing complex has modern features including clean water, power, good security, parking for two-wheelers, and new roads and parks outside to improve the residents’ quality of life.
CM Yogi’s words and “zero tolerance policy”
CM Yogi Adityanath spoke at an event in front of DGP Bhavan’s Ekta Van about how the government is firmly against land mafias. He said that anyone who trespasses on government land, especially land set aside for vulnerable communities, will suffer harsh punishment, as happened in both Lucknow and Prayagraj. Yogi said this was a message to mafia supporters, making it clear that the state will no longer put up with unlawful land acquisitions that take advantage of the poor.
This major handover event isn’t just about giving away flats; it’s also a strong statement from the Uttar Pradesh government that they want to take back land from criminals and give shelter to people who need it. It shows that the government is serious about social fairness, fair urban development, and breaking up mafias that have controlled valuable city properties for a long time.
