CM Yogi Adityanath confirms 20% horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in UP Police. New recruitment drive includes age relaxations, promotions, and expanded infrastructure.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has confirmed a 20% horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in direct recruitment to various cadres of the Uttar Pradesh Police. This includes positions like constables, PAC staff, jail warders, mounted police, and firefighters. The effort seeks to incorporate trained defense personnel into the state’s law enforcement system.

During the Police Commemoration Day ceremony in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi said that Agniveers who finish their four-year service in the armed services before 2026 will be eligible for priority recruitment into the police force. They will also receive a three-year waiver of the upper age limit and have their military service time reduced from their total age calculation.

Police Reform and Recruitment

Since 2017, more than 2.19 lakh police officers have been hired in Uttar Pradesh, including 34,000 women. 1.52 lakh employees have received promotions, while another 28,154 positions are currently being filled. A hybrid strategy is currently used to train new recruits in cybercrime and sensitivity-based communication.

The state has expanded its infrastructure by adding 31,968 new positions and building new facilities. This includes 130 police stations, seven women’s stations, 90 outposts, and four river police stations at Ayodhya, Mirzapur, Chandauli, and Siddharthnagar. Furthermore, 75 district-level cybercrime police stations have been approved.

Support for Families of Martyred Personnel

The Chief Minister reiterated that his government’s first priority continues to be aiding the families of killed police officers. Financial support of ₹30.70 crore was offered as ex-gratia payments to dependents of fallen officers from various forces in Uttar Pradesh who died while serving.

The UP Police Education Fund provides ₹51.10 lakh in scholarships to children from these families, in addition to investing ₹3.5 crore to improve living facilities for officers.

A total of ₹11.85 crore was paid out for life insurance claims covering fatalities among cops. Outstanding service contributions were recognized by medals awarded on qualified persons throughout ranks statewide.
