UP Launches SIR – Special Revision of Electoral Rolls for 2026 Polls
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has officially begun in Uttar Pradesh across all 403 assembly constituencies. This exercise aims to update, verify, and correct voter data ahead of the 2026 Lok Sabha and state elections. According to officials, the final voter list will be published on February 7, 2026.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Amit Singh confirmed that booth level officers (BLOs) began door-to-door distribution of enumeration forms on Tuesday. They visited both rural and urban households and explained how to fill out the forms. Additionally, they guided citizens on using online platforms like the Voter Helpline App and the voter registration portal.
Massive Statewide Exercise Across 1.62 Lakh Booths
The voter list revision exercise is being conducted at 1,62,486 polling booths. BLOs are also informing people about helpline number 1950, launched to assist voters with queries related to registration and form submission.
Currently, Uttar Pradesh has nearly 15.44 crore registered voters, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) data. During this process, the details of every voter will be verified. Duplicate entries, names of deceased individuals, and voters who have migrated will be removed.
Amit Singh added that the wrongful inclusion of foreigners will also be addressed during the SIR. On the other hand, eligible new voters will be added to the rolls. This includes individuals who turned 18 or will turn 18 by January 1, 2026.

This marks the first major revision of voter rolls at this scale since 2003. Authorities will also compare the electoral database of 2003 with the upcoming 2026 rolls to detect inconsistencies and missing records.
Over 3 Lakh Officials Deployed for Revision Drive
The SIR is one of the largest electoral exercises in India. It involves:
- 1.62 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs)
- 1.93 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from political parties
- 2,445 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) & AEROs
- 75 District Election Officers
These officials will verify household details, match voters with booth records, and ensure no eligible citizen is left out.
Officials assured that the exercise is proceeding smoothly, with no reported glitches so far. Regular updates are being sent to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Lucknow.
