The Sangam Ropeway initiative will follow a revenue-sharing public-private partnership approach, promoting financial feasibility and smooth implementation.

Prayagraj: The Sangam ropeway project, which has been delayed for nearly seven years, is eventually set to commence in the near future, a significant development. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has cleared the majority of the obstacles, thereby enabling the project to progress. The National Highway Logistics Management Limited has been tasked with the construction of the project.

Revenue-sharing public-private partnership paradigm

The revenue-sharing public-private partnership model will be implemented to guarantee the project’s viability and efficient execution, as per a report by the Times of India.

The Parade Ground will be in close proximity to the main station, which will be situated between Lal Sadak and Kali Sadak, as per the recently approved alignment. It will be situated in close proximity to the Prayagraj Mela Authority headquarters and the Maha Kumbh Parade Police Station.

Accessibility for both pilgrims and local residents

The relocation from the previously proposed location near Shankar Viman Mandapam is expected to improve accessibility for both local residents and pilgrims.

The 2,200-meter-long ropeway, which is supported by three pillars and has 14 trolleys, will enable 112 visitors to simultaneously appreciate panoramic vistas. It is worth noting that each carriage can accommodate up to eight passengers simultaneously.

It is anticipated that the ropeway under consideration will attract substantial interest, particularly during events like Maha Kumbh and Kumbh Mela. The elevated route will enhance both the convenience and the opportunities for sightseeing.

The ropeway undertaking is estimated to cost Rs 210 crore. Following meticulous design evaluations and surveys, a Rajasthan-based company has been assigned the responsibility of serving as the implementing agency.

A tangible model of the ropeway was recently displayed at the headquarters of the Prayagraj Mela Authority.

Nearly seven years ago, the ropeway was proposed. Prior to the 2019 Kumbh and the 2025 Maha Kumbh, it was reviewed. Prior to receiving final approvals in 2023–24, the project encountered substantial obstacles, such as numerous administrative and technical complications.
