Punjab Police arrest 73 drug smugglers in 311 raids under CM Bhagwant Mann’s 303-day ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign; narcotics seized and de-addiction efforts underway.

Following 58 first information reports (FIRs) being filed throughout the state, Punjab Police conducted raids at 311 locations on Monday, leading to the arrest of 73 drug smugglers as part of the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign against drugs, which CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has been waging for the 303rd day in a row. This brings the total number of drug smugglers apprehended in 303 days to 42,297.

848 grams of heroin, 80 quintals of poppy husk, 543 intoxicant tablets or capsules, and Rs 5570 in drug money were found in the possession of drug smugglers who were arrested as a result of the operations.

Notably, the CM has requested that the Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Commissioners of Police declare Punjab a drug-free state. A five-member Cabinet Subcommittee headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has also been established by the Punjab government to oversee the fight against drugs.

Under the direction of 72 gazetted officers, more than 120 police teams with more than 1000 officers have carried out 311 raids around the state. Over the course of the daylong operation, police teams have also inspected up to 317 questionable individuals.

In order to eradicate narcotics from the state, the state government has implemented a three-pronged policy called Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP). As part of “De-addiction,” the Punjab Police has persuaded 36 people to receive de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.
