‘Punjab Police arrest 11 drug smugglers, seize heroin and cash as Yudh Nashian Virudh anti-drug campaign completes 289 days.

Continuing the ongoing campaign against drugs, “Yudh Nashian Virudh,” initiated by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to eliminate the drug menace from the state, has reached its 289th consecutive day.  Punjab Police conducted operations at 132 locations, resulting in the apprehension of 11 drug smugglers following the registration of seven first information reports (FIRs) across the state. As a result, the total number of drug traffickers apprehended has risen to 40,236 within a span of 289 days.

The investigations have led to the seizure of 4.5 kilograms of heroin and Rs 3.9 lakhs in drug proceeds from the possession of apprehended drug traffickers. More than 80 police squads, totaling over 500 personnel and led by 32 gazetted officers, have carried out 132 raids throughout the state. Police units have also detained or examined a total of 142 individuals suspected of involvement during the extended operation.

The state government has implemented a three-pronged approach—Enforcement, Deaddiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to eliminate drugs from the state. As part of the ‘De-addiction’ initiative, the Punjab Police successfully persuaded five individuals to undertake de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.
