Punjab Govt declares a local holiday for Tarn Taran by-election on Nov 11, 2025. Paid leave announced for all eligible voters to cast their ballots.

Voting for the Tarn Taran by-election to the Punjab Legislative Assembly will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. According to the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, a local holiday has been proclaimed for all government agencies, boards/corporations, and educational institutions situated in the Tarn Taran constituency on this day in light of the upcoming election.

By presenting their voter ID card to the appropriate authority, any government officer or employee who works in Punjab’s government offices, boards/corporations, or government educational institutions and is a voter in the Tarn Taran constituency may be granted special leave to cast their ballot, according to the Punjab government’s notification. Their leave account will not be impacted by this leave. In accordance with Section 135-B (1) of the Representation of People Act, 1951, this has also been deemed paid leave. All workers who are qualified to vote on the day of the bye-election and who work for businesses, trades, stores, or other institutions are entitled to this leave.

Furthermore, all employees who are Taran Tarn constituency voters and work in shops and industrial institutions within the constituency are entitled to a holiday under Section 28 of the Punjab Shops and Commercial institutions Act, 1958. As a result, workers who are eligible to vote cannot be called into work on election day.
