Punjab’s New Era of Smart Governance
Chandigarh — Punjab is stepping into a new era of smart governance in Punjab where technology, accountability, and transparency guide decision-making. Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the government has proven that honest leadership can save public money while modernizing systems.
Earlier, crores of rupees were spent repairing roads without proper inspections. For the first time, artificial intelligence and videography were used to survey 3,369 roads across the state. Out of these, 843 were found to be in good condition. Previous governments had wasted crores on unnecessary repairs, but this time, the state saved ₹383 crore. The saved funds will now be redirected to public welfare projects instead of wasteful tenders.
AI and Technology Reshape Governance
The transformation is not limited to roadworks. In prisons, a ₹252 crore modernization project is underway. Facilities are being equipped with 5G jammers, AI-enabled surveillance cameras, and live monitoring systems to strengthen security.
In policing and taxation, technology-driven tools are being introduced to make processes more efficient and transparent. The transport sector has also witnessed reforms. The old system of issuing driving licenses—often marred by corruption—has been replaced with AI-powered HAMS technology, where each test is digitally recorded to eliminate manipulation.
Education at the Core of Punjab’s AI Drive
Education remains the heart of Punjab’s technological revolution. The Mann government is training 10,000 teachers in artificial intelligence. These teachers will introduce AI concepts to school-level students, ensuring that future generations are equipped with digital skills. The aim is not only to prepare youth as job seekers but also to empower them as job creators.
Lakhs of students will now receive AI training, helping Punjab emerge as a hub of digital talent. This initiative also highlights a long-term vision where technology meets education to transform the state’s workforce.
Agriculture, Language, and Cultural Integration
The technological push extends to agriculture as well. Punjab Agricultural University has started AI-based courses to provide technical education to families engaged in farming. This step ensures that the backbone of Punjab’s economy also benefits from digital knowledge.
Moreover, the government has launched a mission to integrate the Punjabi language into AI systems. This not only gives global recognition to the mother tongue but also creates new digital opportunities for local youth. Such measures ensure that progress is inclusive, blending tradition with innovation.
