Sidhwan Canal in Punjab to remain closed from Jan 7–27, 2026, for bridge construction. Notification issued under Punjab Canal & Drainage Act 2023.

Punjab : The Punjab Water Resources Department has announced that the Sidhwan Canal will be closed for 21 days due to ongoing bridge construction work.

An official spokesperson confirmed that the canal will remain shut from January 7 to January 27, 2026, both days inclusive, to facilitate uninterrupted construction activities.

The closure has been mandated under Rule 61 of the rules framed under the Punjab Canal and Drainage Act, 2023 (Part-3). A formal notification regarding the closure has already been issued by the department.

Officials have urged residents, farmers, and local authorities to plan water usage and irrigation schedules accordingly to avoid any inconvenience during this period.

The Punjab Water Resources Department has emphasized that these measures are essential to ensure safety and smooth progress of the bridge construction work over the Sidhwan Canal.

Authorities have also requested the public to follow updates through official channels for any changes or adjustments in the canal closure schedule.
