Anandpur Sahib to Receive Major Road Infrastructure Boost Ahead of 350th Martyrdom Day
Chandigarh : The Punjab Government has initiated an extensive infrastructure enhancement plan in Sri Anandpur Sahib ahead of the 350th Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Friday directed officials to accelerate all road and lighting projects, setting a firm deadline of November 15, 2025, for their completion.
Speaking to the media, the Minister said that the Chandigarh Circle of the Public Works Department (PWD) has finalized a comprehensive plan worth ₹24.51 crore to upgrade and maintain key roads and lighting infrastructure in and around Anandpur Sahib. The project aims to ensure smooth connectivity and improved amenities for pilgrims and visitors attending the historic celebrations.
₹24.51 Crore Sanctioned for Roads, Lighting, and Maintenance
Harbhajan Singh ETO highlighted that the road network leading to and within Anandpur Sahib will undergo significant improvements. The primary works include the Sri Anandpur Sahib to Dashmesh Academy Road, internal city roads, and the Sri Anandpur Sahib to Sri Naina Devi route — all vital for managing the anticipated inflow of devotees during the upcoming commemorative events.
“The government is committed to providing world-class infrastructure for this sacred occasion. We want visitors to experience comfort, safety, and convenience during the celebrations,” said the Minister.
The project includes reconstruction of damaged road surfaces, bridges, and link roads, with an estimated expenditure of ₹23 crore. Additionally, a budget of ₹77.58 lakh has been earmarked for special repairs and regular maintenance to ensure the durability of newly upgraded stretches.
Lighting and Electrical Upgrades to Enhance Safety and Efficiency
Apart from roadwork, electrical and lighting systems across key areas of Anandpur Sahib are being modernized. The initiative includes replacement of damaged poles, installation of LED lights, and upgradation of aluminum and copper wiring to ensure energy efficiency and public safety.
Harbhajan Singh ETO emphasized that the government’s focus extends beyond beautification — it aims to enhance road safety and ensure uninterrupted lighting during the celebrations, which are expected to draw large crowds.
“We are not only repairing roads but also improving the lighting and electrical systems to make the area safer for pilgrims and residents,” he added.
The PWD has already mobilized teams and contractors to work round the clock, ensuring that no delay affects the preparations for this landmark religious occasion.
Commitment to Timely Completion and Quality Infrastructure
Minister Harbhajan Singh reiterated that all works must be completed before November 15, giving sufficient time for inspection and review before the start of the Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Martyrdom Day events. He directed the department to monitor progress closely, maintain transparency in tendering, and ensure high-quality construction standards.
The Minister also noted that the project’s execution will be coordinated with local authorities and district administration to minimize public inconvenience during ongoing works. The department’s engineers have been instructed to conduct regular field visits to ensure compliance with safety norms and technical quality benchmarks.
“These upgrades are part of a long-term vision to enhance the infrastructure of Anandpur Sahib, not just for the upcoming event but for future generations,” Harbhajan Singh ETO stated.
The government views this initiative as both a logistical necessity and a spiritual duty, ensuring that the sacred town of Anandpur Sahib — the birthplace of the Khalsa — offers a seamless experience to every visitor during the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary celebrations.
