Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested 9 govt officials and 2 private individuals in bribery trap cases in November as part of its anti-corruption drive.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its continuing campaign against corruption within the state, has successfully apprehended nine government officials and two private individuals, caught in the act of accepting bribes, in eight separate trap cases during the month of November

Disclosing this today, an official spokesperson of the state VB stated that the VB has exerted its utmost efforts to eradicate corruption among public servants and others across all sectors during this period. He reported that the Bureau had filed challans related to 12 vigilance cases in various appropriate courts during the past month. In addition, seven vigilance inquiries have been initiated to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the corruption cases. He further stated that eight criminal cases have also been filed against seventeen defendants, including eleven government employees.

Providing additional details, he stated that various competent courts had adjudicated three bribery cases filed and contested by the Bureau in the past month, resulting in the conviction of five individuals who received sentences ranging from three to five years of imprisonment and fines between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 67,000.
