Punjab Govt Launches ₹31.14 Cr Road Project in Ludhiana to Strengthen Urban Infrastructure

Chandigarh/Ludhiana, April 8, 2025 – In a major stride toward developing world-class infrastructure in Punjab, the state government is all set to commence work on a ₹31.14 crore road project in Ludhiana on Wednesday. This ambitious project includes the construction of a 200-foot-wide road from Malerkotla Road to Sidhwan Canal Lohara Bridge, significantly improving regional connectivity and easing traffic congestion.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian will lay the foundation stones for two critical road infrastructure projects aimed at uplifting transportation facilities and fulfilling long-pending demands of the local population.

Key Highlights of the Road Projects

  1. Malerkotla to Sidhwan Canal Lohara Bridge Project (₹31.14 Cr)
  • Stretch Length: 1.7 kilometers
  • Road Width: 200 feet
  • Scope of Work:
    • Bituminous road construction
    • Public health infrastructure
    • Horticultural landscaping
    • Electrical lighting and medians for improved traffic management
  • Timeline: To be completed within one year
  • Maintenance Plan: Five-year maintenance included in the project contract

Minister Mundian emphasized that this project, part of Missing Link-2 (Part-C), will act as a game-changer by providing smoother access and spurring economic activity in Sidhwan Canal Lohara and surrounding areas.

“This road will ease traffic movement and provide much-needed relief to daily commuters while fostering economic development,” Mundian noted during a press briefing.

  1. Special Repair of Link Road from GT Road to Khasi Kalan via Tajpur to Dhanansu (₹3.31 Cr)
  • Length: 3.85 kilometers
  • Purpose: Special repair to restore functionality of a heavily-used commuter corridor
  • Beneficiaries: Residents around Tajpur Road and nearby villages

This road has been a long-standing demand of the public, and its restoration is expected to greatly enhance travel experience and logistics efficiency in Ludhiana’s industrial zones.

Vision of the Bhagwant Mann-Led Government

These projects reflect the larger vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who has consistently advocated for modern, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure across Punjab. Under his leadership, Punjab has undertaken numerous development initiatives, with urban transport and road connectivity being key focus areas.

Minister Mundian reiterated the government’s commitment, stating:

“The Bhagwant Mann-led government is making sincere and consistent efforts to provide world-class infrastructure. These road projects are a testament to our dedication to improving citizens’ quality of life.”

Strategic Importance of the Projects

Both road projects play a strategic role in:

  • Reducing congestion on major city corridors
  • Promoting smoother vehicular movement across Ludhiana
  • Boosting industrial logistics, particularly with improved access to nearby hubs
  • Improving public safety with better road lighting and medians
  • Enhancing regional connectivity for residents and businesses alike

These infrastructure upgrades are also expected to attract investment and bolster Ludhiana’s image as a thriving, business-friendly urban center.
