Kotkapura Sewerage Project Announced
Kotkapura, Punjab — In a major development for urban infrastructure, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan announced that the long-pending Kotkapura sewerage project is set to begin soon. The project, worth ₹18.32 crore, aims to address the severe sewerage issues troubling residents of Devi Wala Road and nearby villages for years.
Speaking on Friday, Sandhwan stated that the government has floated a tender for the project, which will be opened on October 8, 2025. Work is expected to commence shortly after, ensuring permanent resolution of the sewerage crisis.
Residents Struggled for Years
For decades, locals of Devi Wala Road and Kotkapura have faced recurring sewerage issues, especially during the monsoon. The sludge carrier drain, which is decades old, has developed multiple leakages. This caused overflow during rains, flooding homes and streets with contaminated water.
Faridkot Deputy Commissioner Punamdeep Kaur noted that this persistent problem created major health and sanitation challenges. “Residents suffered heavily during rainy seasons due to repeated leakage and overflow,” she said. “The new project will finally provide a lasting solution.”
Project Details and Scope
According to SDO B.S. Gill of the Punjab Sewerage Board, the project includes laying a 5150-meter sewerage pipeline from the 8 MLD STP on Devi Wala Road to the drain at Devi Wala village. The upgraded system will replace outdated infrastructure and ensure smooth flow, preventing backlogs and contamination.
Officials confirmed that the project design has been developed with long-term sustainability in mind. The improved network will handle growing population needs and reduce health hazards caused by sewage leakage.

The ₹18.32 crore investment reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to strengthening civic infrastructure in smaller towns. Experts believe this will not only ease residents’ hardship but also support public health, environmental protection, and urban growth.
