Punjab State Information Commission increases penalty on an Amritsar RTO PCS officer for repeatedly ignoring summons and failing to comply with RTI directives.
The Punjab State Information Commission has voiced its disapproval regarding the conduct of a PCS officer from the state.
Sharing details, a spokesperson of the Commission stated that in case number 5555/2023, scheduled for hearing before State Information Commissioner Mrs. Pooja Gupta, the Regional Transport Officer of Amritsar was summoned multiple times but failed to appear before the Commission on any occasion.

The spokesperson stated that, despite the issuance of bailable warrants against this officer, he has yet to appear before the Commission.
The spokesperson further stated that, owing to non-compliance with the directives of the Commission, State Information Commissioner Mrs. Pooja Gupta has ordered an increase in the penalty previously levied on the officer at the time the RTI application was filed, from ₹10,000 to ₹25,000.
Furthermore, the Commission has voiced its dissatisfaction with the current Regional Transport Officer, Khushdil Singh Sandhu, PCS, due to his negligent conduct and his non-compliance with the directives issued by the Punjab State Information Commission. The Commission has notified the Principal Secretary, Transport, regarding the non-compliance and the indifferent attitude of the RTI Wing of the Transport Department towards the directions issued by the Commission.
