Chandigarh – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann unveiled details of the state’s revamped Punjab sports policy in a press conference today, emphasizing the government’s commitment to nurturing athletes and preparing them for international competitions.
The Punjab sports policy allocates ₹15 lakh for Olympic preparations and ₹8 lakh for Asian Games training, ensuring that athletes receive adequate financial support to compete at the highest level. High-quality equipment and advanced training facilities have also been made available to prepare players for international competitions.
Punjab Sports Policy Rewards Champions with Cash Awards for Asian Games and Olympics
Highlighting the government’s focus on rewarding excellence, the Chief Minister announced that players who won gold medals at the 2023 Asian Games received cash awards of ₹1–1 crore. Similarly, members of the hockey team representing Punjab in the 2024 Olympics were awarded ₹1–1 crore each under the Punjab sports policy.

In addition to financial incentives, the Punjab sports policy has also opened pathways for career growth. Nine exceptional athletes have been provided prestigious government jobs as PCS officers and DSPs. Over the past four years, athletes achieving success in various sports have received nearly ₹100 crore in awards, reflecting the policy’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding talent.
